Veterans Day

Veterans Day

A federal holiday and a state holiday in all states, Veterans Day honors living veterans who served in the military. It is celebrated on November 11 or on the weekday closest to the date.

Previously known as Armistice Day, Veterans Day was originally intended to honor the end of World War II, which took place on November 11, 1918. In 1954, changes were implemented to include veterans of World War II and the Korean War, and thus the date became a day honoring American veterans in general.

Initially, there was some confusion on the celebration of Veterans Day. The existing Uniforms Holiday Bill ensured three-day weekends for federal employees, moving four holidays, including Veterans Day, to the last Monday of October. This was met with a lot of disagreement. Thus in 1975, President Gerald Ford signed a law declaring November 11 as the official date.

Festivities for Veterans Day usually involve parades, wreath laying at memorials across the country, and unit reunions. Depending on the organizers, some celebrations include ceremonial sword cake cuttings, concerts, military uniform displays, and special exhibits.

There are many ways to observe Veterans Day, and one of them is to show support for veterans by sending them cards and flowers.

Bolster veteran pride with promotional bumper stickers. Choose models that are UV- and water-resistant, so they last for a long time.

Cause-oriented groups working on veterans advocacy issues can take advantage of Veterans Day to campaign for support for hospitalized ex-servicemen and speeding up processing of their claims. To raise awareness for veterans issues, promotional stress balls, notepads, writing instruments, stickers and decals, T-shirts, and mugs are suitable giveaways. More awareness-themed promotional items are available on Branders.com.

Because this day is meant to honor former military persons who have served the country, patriotic-themed promotional items such as pillows, stress balls, mugs, and mousepads are most suitable.
