World AIDS Day

Established by the World Health Organization in 1988, World AIDS Day is observed on December 1 of every year.

World AIDS Day is an opportunity for governments, AIDS programs, religious groups, community organizations, and individuals to help raise awareness for the growing HIV/AIDS situation.

With more than a million Americans reported to be living with HIV/AIDS and some 35,000 new cases discovered in 2006 (source: Center for Disease Control and Prevention), the fight against HIV/AIDS has never been more serious than it is today.

If you're with a nongovernment organization, a medical facility, or a community group, World AIDS Day is a good opportunity to educate, motivate, and mobilize the community in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Participate in commemorating World AIDS Day with a range of promotional items. Show support for the cause with bring-everywhere custom awareness ribbon key chains.

Another thing you can do to show you’re one with World AIDS Day is to help raise funds for HIV/AIDS-related research. World AIDS Day is also a good chance to express concern for those with HIV/AIDS and show them that they’re not any different from us. Many who are ignorant cut off all ties with people with HIV/AIDS because they don’t know any better. Help build a support group by bringing together friends and co-workers. Send cards, toys, and mementos—anything will be welcome! People with HIV/AIDS would appreciate knowing that you care for them.

You can also use your position in the community in the Stop AIDS Leadership Pledge, which is this and last year’s theme for World AIDS Day. The project encourages everyone to use his or her leadership to help in enabling universal access to AIDS prevention, treatment, care, and support.
