Custom Wine Glasses
We all love drinking wine. Whether its during a wedding or other special occasions to just a simple gathering among friends, wines will always make for a worthwhile time. For this reason, you can never be without wine glasses. While you can drink your champagne or vodka on a standard glass, the so-called "spirit" will not be the same when it is drunk on a wine glass. But there are a variety of styles to choose from when it comes to wine glasses and here they are:
Red Wine Glass
Red wine glasses have fuller and rounder bowls. They are rounder with a larger opening compared to other wine glasses of similar capacities. This way, you can easily dip your nose into the glass to detect aroma. Likewise, the aroma and flavor of red wine requires a glass with a larger surface area.
There are two specific types of red wine glasses namely the Bordeaux and the Burgundy glass. The former is taller than traditional red wine glass but their bowl is not that large. The latter, on the other hand, is designed for lighter and full-bodied wines.
White Wine Glass
The white wine glass will have a more U-shaped and upright bowl than the red wine glass allowing the aromas to be released at a much cooler temperature. Glasses for younger whites would have a slightly larger opening that leads the wine to the tip and sides of the tongue so you can taste its sweetness. For the more matured wines, the glass is straighter and taller so the wine is directed to the back and sides of the tongue to taste its bolder flavor.
Sparkling Wine Glass
The sparkling wine glass will be more upright and narrower than most wine glasses in order to maintain its carbonation as well as to capture the flavor in the beverage.
Rose Wine Glasses
There are two types of rose wine glasses. The first one is a stemmed glass with a short bowl and a slight taper. The second one has a short bowl and slightly flared lip. The latter is most suitable for younger, crisper, and less sweet rose wines. This lets the wine run out of the bowl and right onto the tip of the tongue where the taste buds are most sensitive to sweetness. For ther more mature wines, glasses with a slight taper are most preferred.
Dessert and Fortified Wine Glasses
These types of glasses are smaller so that the wine is directed to the back of the mouth so the sweetness will not overwhelm. Due to their higher alcohol content, smaller glasses are perfect for smaller servings.
Specialty Wine Glasses
There are two types of specialty wine glasses namely the all-purpose and the stemless. The former is ideal if only a single glass type is all that the circumstances allow. The shape of the bowl lies in between that of a red and white wine so they are useful for both kinds of wine. The stemless wine glass, on the other hand, offers function with a modern style and limited risk of breakage.

Where Did Custom Wine Glasses Came From?
The Pleistene Period saw the Iberians and later the Britons using baked clay goblets as a drinking container. The Phoenicians taught the Britons how to make copper alloy paving the way for the rise of the Bronze Age. Likewise, timber and bronze tankards were introduced. The Romans introduced silvery and pottery goblets that featured ornate scroll work of pairs of leaves with buds.
In the 5th century AD, the upper class used a shallow cup with a fine stem while the lower classes used sturdy pottery goblets. With the coming of the Saxons from the north, they not only brought with them fine glasswares and gold jewel encrusted goblets but also horns.Since they had no legs, the drink had to be consumed right away so they could be laid down. The horns, on the other hand, were used as titles to property.
In 700 - 800 AD, horn and silver flagons were used because the Church did not allow the use of horn cups during communion. In the late 900's. wooden tankards were commonly used while clear glass tumblers made an appearance in the late 1000s throughout England.
Although there had been different forms of wine cups that had appeared since the Classical Period, it was the 14th century merchants of Venice that laid down a new standard of elegance in wine drinking. They did this through the combination of glassblowing and designing. Due to the clarity and transparency of their cristallo glass, the color of the wine was fully appreciated.
This style of glasses persisted in the succeeding centuries. However, changes in interior decorating styles paved the way for new designs of glasses as well. During the 1670s, George Ravenscroft used lead oxide in developing a new formula for making glass. It resulted to a softer, stronger, heavier, and more luminous type of glass. Because these new glasses were heavier and slow to set, the Venetian style glasses continued to be used. During the 1760s, glass cutting became the preferred method for designing glasses. Until this time, wine glasses remained an individual decorative object. With the dining room becoming more clearly defined and formal dining practices already introduced, matching sets of glasses also came into existence in the 18th century.
